Canadian Club

Welcome to the Canadian Club. The name Canada comes from a St. Lawrence Iroquoian word meaning "village" or "settlement." Our total surface area is 9,970,610km² . The only country bigger than we are (in surface area) is Russia at 17,098,242km² . Our population, based on the 2007 estimate is 32,984,400. Although we're the second largest country in surface area, we're at no. 36 when it comes to population size. That's a lot of land and a LOT of opportunity. This is what they say of us at www.lonelyplanet.com: Those expecting Canada to be a blander version of the USA should check their assumptions at the door. Canada's wild northern frontier, which has etched itself into the national psyche, and its distinct patchwork of peoples have created a country that is decidedly different from its brash neighbour. It's the edginess between Canada's indigenous, French and British traditions that gives the nation its complex three-dimensional character. Add to this a constant infusion of US culture and a plethora of traditions brought by migrants, and you have a thriving multicultural society. This is us and this is our club. Join us if you're a Canadian, an aspirant Canadian, a former Canadian, or you're in love with a Canadian. Welcome. Bienvenue. Delphine du Toit
