Fit in or Stand Out - Which are you?

Why spend your life trying to fit in when you are born to stand out

This is what I stand by. I like to be different I like to be unorthodox, I do not like to play by society rules or what it dictates, I like to leave an impression.

All of this is so important in business, why? well because if you are one of many so how can you leave the impressions with your potential customers and suppliers? if you are the same you get forgotten.

Far too many businesses start and end as the same boring dull way as thousands of others. The real success stories are ones that stand out. Look around you and see the publications of ones that do a great job at this through product differentiation or the CEO quirkiness.

What do you do to stand out? to be different? List them here.

Get you thinking and executing ideas.

Fit in or Stand Out - Which are you?

Stand out, but without being a complete twit. The number of people who try to draw attention to their business by being annoying is unbelievable. I got an invitation to connect on LinkedIn once - when I accepted it I got a lengthy sales pitch for, of all things, emotional quotient training. When I complained that it was a bit spammy, I got back a really passive-aggressive response saying "the other 1700 people I sent it to didn't complain" Not to you, they didn't, pal. I try to stand out by providing value (not 'content') to potential clients and attracting them to my business. If they like it, they come back for more and start paying for it. It's good for them and it's good for me.

See Lyndon that you have signed off with that word. Describes me, too. Someone once said I am a maveric, but found that a little distasteful. Laurence

Fit in or Stand Out - Which are you?

Hi Lyndon It is important to differentiate an enterprise from the competition. However, as more businesses are being born than ever before, it can be quite challenging to do this. Independent professionals and small business owners have a unique aspect of their business which no-one else has: themselves. Within an age of me-too marketing, business owners have the opportunity to be creative and to stand out from the crowd. I think that it takes guts to do this and I think that you should continue to encourage Ecademists to stand up, stand out and be themselves. Fit in or Stand Out - Which are you?

No matter how much I would love to "Fit in" at times, as a Maverick, Scorpio, Enneagram # 8 and a WD Star - I find it almost impossible not to Stand Out ;-) Actually in this "Day & Age" I think its necessary to Stand Out, in one way or another - as WB always quote Andy Garcia from Grateful Death: "Its not enough to be the best at what you do - you have to be the only one who does what you do!"

Fit in or Stand Out - Which are you?

I'll stand out like everyone else does :) Another good post which gets the juices flowing. I'm thinking it depends on the business model and the nature of the individual. Some people like to base a market on what people are already doing, purchasing so for them it makes sense to get their offering to 'fit in' to an existing market share. For me, I definitely believe it is important to show more of myself so I stand out. In the field of Personal Training and Coaching the offering if 99.9% is 'Unique' just like everyone else. Yet when you read into it you'll struggle to understand what the uniqueness actually is. Being mindful of this means you can not only position yourself more effectively but you can genuinely provide an offering which is not only better but beyond what they can get anywhere else.

Fit in or Stand Out - Which are you?

Lyndon, When I worked for a company I had to comply and conform to their rules and regulations many of which I didn't agree with and these are the reason that helped me decided to go self-employed. On Ecademy as a Networker, I have stayed in the back-ground and observed the Key-Players of whom have taught me a lot on a positive note and where I have needed to change and get my act together to be effective, alot of the time I have had to evolve and be open to learn now skills and not be intimidated by people who like to keep things the same and defy change. I am more confident now and can influence like-minded people, so will begin to step out and assist where I can use my skills to be effective in the working environment, I am training to be a Life Coach with the intention to encourage Young Adults to explore the passion within them to get started in "self-employment and of course networking" Best wishes Stella

I've always been myself rather than what other people wanted me to be. That's enough for me to stand out.

Fit in or Stand Out - Which are you?

Lyndon Thanks for the reminder and the challenge. Standing out requires that you know who you are, what you stand for, and what you have to offer that is unique and different. In a competitive world, we are not inclined to encourage people to stand out and be different (perhaps part of the cultural baggage of being British, we love tearing down accomplishment and looking for flaws) - thank God for the Olympics which have given us an excuse to be proud of accomplishments an achievements. It takes courage to stand up for who you are and what you offer and even more to encourage other to do so - and be joyous in their success. I think that in the past I did fear doing so, just in case I got challenged or ridiculed - but that is the price I have had to pay to test myself in the marketplace, to give people the change to see that I am different, that I have something unique to offer, even if that is just my take on things'. So the things I do to stand out: 1) Keep a consistent message of managing diversity and equality in the workplace 2) Challenge individuals to be cross culturally competent for a global marketplace 3) Challenge the myths and PC aspects of Equality & Diversity 4) Stand up against injustice where ever I see it 5) Encourage others to fulfill their potential - by challenging discrimination. So thank you for encouraging us to be who we are, to bring our unique offering to the marketplace and leaving a lasting impact and memory with our clients Shelley

☀Stand Out☀. I was and still am the first female Corporate Fitness facilitator to offer a complete Consultancy. Along with a Swansea College lecturer 2001 I opened a Cyber IT Training Cafe in the student heartland. I am the first female to start up the Cardiff Boardroom and cross over the bridge to take it to other cities for organic growth! Thanks for asking the question Lyndon. Now I have to attract more like-minded members. C:)x

Fit in or Stand Out - Which are you?

Dear Lyndon, I can see and feel why this is appropriate from your perspective. I am, however, in doubt. I have a video on my profile that says we're all one, narrated by a Native Indian chief. This is part of his vision: And the world has become "a market" And it is this market that we have to deal with and this idea of boundless and endless resources And when you say resources, you're talking about our relatives, taking about our family fish is our family, its not a resource, its family it requires all the respect the structure of the world itself is such it functions on natural law and the natural law is a powerful regenerative process as a process of regeneration that continues and grows and is endless, it's absolutely endless if everyone agrees to the law and follows the law but if you challenge the law and you think you're going to change the law then you're bound to failure and then that failure will be a lot of pain because the natural law has no mercy it is only the law the earth is all powerful wasn't made here for human beings he said we're part of it but we don't have to be here, because the earth has it's own process and if it comes to the point where you destroy yourself as human beings and you destroy life and finally leave this earth earth is not gonna disappear there's not gonna be an end of the world, that's really a very interesting concept to us No the world won't end people's life on it will so its not the end of the world that worry about but its the end of us and the world no matter what damage you think you've done to it will regenerate, will re green, will re-do everything that was here at one time except there won't be any people because it's got all the time in the world Surely there must be more than those two ways ... nowadays I search and try to find a way to blend me, my talents, my business in.....differently but more from an fitting in approach the hardest task I ever took on .....
