Going into hospital

At one time or another we (or someone we know) will need hospitalisation - this may not be the most appetizing of thoughts or experience.

Whilst on holiday recently I met Dr Rami Seth MBE - you can find him here and you will see that he is now on the speaker circuit. What it doesn't tell you is that he was a surgeon for the NHS (in fact he worked for the NHS for forty years all told) and then became a patient himself - he has had a number of fights with cancer, many operations and he is still with us!!.

Along the way he had excellent care but also his overall comfort and dignity was definitely not always a good experience - it occurred to him that there were things where he could personally (as the patient) take responsibilty to improve things. He asked many of his GP doctor colleagues if they, in any way, gave guidance to their patients who were faced with going into hospital - a 100% negative answer!

So his idea for a self help booklet was born - it is available from Rami and, I believe, all proceeds go via his Rotary connections to various charities - the cost is under a fiver!

If you feel a copy of his booklet would help someone you know make the best of what is a stressful and worrying time, please get in touch with Rami on email - ramiseth@virginmedia.com

We have had times (with my mother-in-law) where the hospital experience could definitely have been improved by adopting some of Rami's advice, hence this message to highlight a source of potential help.

Regards,
Dave

Thanks David, good idea by the eminent Doctor. Mum and Father in law went to different hospitals for the same procedure. Mum was delighted with her treatment so well done Charing Cross. Father in law hated it in North London. However, he was pleased with his treatment at the London Chest Hospital. I think the book will help people understand
