Top 10 Reasons To Work From Home!

1. Freedom

It's an amazing feeling when you realise that you no longer have to ask permission to go to the dentist! Unless you have experienced the sense of freedom that working from home can give you this may be tricky for you to get your head round. Trust me … you need to try it. Break free and put your plan to Escape the Rat Race together today. There are so many wonderful ways to do it that if you feel like you're suffocating in the workplace it's time to go to Plan B.

2. Home and Family Life

You can be there for your family and work your schedule round their very demanding one! It might be young children, elderly parents or perhaps you keep animals. My two children are thankfully very healthy but even so, all children sometimes need to take a day off for various reasons. When I worked for someone else this used to give me stomach ulcers! When we settled in the UK and I discovered how many half-terms and Personal Development days there are I nearly had a nervous breakdown and that's when I decided to look into working from home.

3. Be Your Own Boss.

The gratification of knowing that you are working hard for your self, not your boss is hard to beat. This is a huge factor in the decision to break free. Many single people don't need to worry about fitting their schedule round family life but they have other requirements such as wanting to be able to make their own decisions like a grown up. It can often feel like you are a still at school when you need to keep notifying someone else about what you are doing with your time. Being your own boss has its ups and downs but if you're ready to take responsibility for your own future success then I highly recommend it. You must be self motivated and success minded for this though or you may find yourself becoming a day time soap watching professional…

4. Wake Up When You Are Finished Sleeping!

You can start working when YOU are ready. I used to hate commuting with a passion. I mean really hate it. Now I have time to do a little exercise, perhaps read or meditate early in the morning. Then I walk my daughters to school and settle down with my green tea and laptop. No traffic jams and no stress.

5. Avoid the Nasty British Weather

This may sound silly but I love to avoid the bad weather… Come on let's face it with the temperamental weather in the UK who wants to have to go out to work in all weathers? Not me anyhow. Unless I have a confirmed appointment I do my work from home on those rainy and windy days, saving my jaunts for the mild days.

6 Work From Home, Not Just At Home

The working at home element is fabulous, and the home-based element means you are allowed to go out and have fun doing your business! My idea of working out of the home these days is attending networking events on subjects of my choice to widen my circle of contacts, or if I'm doing some 'real' work I may attend a home business reception for one of my new team members where I sit down and watch a DVD! (Hard labour I think not!)

7 Independent But Not Alone

These days there are so many opportunities to partner with amazing companies with proven business systems, which enable one to be independent and flexible, but to have the training and support to avoid feeling isolated. Let's also not forget the potential to earn unlimited income with many of these opportunities!

8 Free Of Overheads And No Need To Hold Stock.

This is an incredible benefit when you think how traditional businesses operate. Most new business owners need to be willing to go straight into heavy debt, hold stock, pay staff, premises costs and of course have accounts receivable to keep them up at night biting their nails.

9. Internet Marketing.

The possibilities are endless with the internet and the leveraging of time. I have a mobile paper-free office and can do my business from anywhere. There are so many amazing new communication tools these days - just remember to turn the video camera off when you are working in your pyjamas or having a bad hair day! You can have an international business reaching to almost any corner of the globe. Imagine the possibilities of having a business that operates in different time zones and earns you money while you sleep.

10. Holidays!

Last but just as important! You can book your own holidays in your diary. You can run your own 'flexi-time' and work in the middle of the night, dusk or dawn if the fancy takes you and then take the day off in the sunshine (need to make the most of it when it appears!)

I agree with so much of what you've written above as I used to work for a major bank but now run my own IFA business from home and since then my relationship with my wife and children has improved no end due to to the fact that I am around more and not stuck on the daily commute to London. You do have to have a disciplined personality however as it is very easy to end up doing everything else but putting in the work you require to earn a living. I suppose this comes down to individual goal setting and working out a work life balance which you can only achieve by being self-employed. Top 10 Reasons To Work From Home!

The smartest job in the universe is as I think - a Home based business. I agree with you Rachel. Well, just like other offline business, home based businesses require some investment (either in the form of financial or working hours) and it take time to build your own reputation, once you are done you get profited in the years to come... I love it. The beauty of online marketing lies in the flexibility of work time and it requires very nominal working hours to book profit. But it doesn't mean that we leave our full time job, for the check of a home based business. FUTURE IS UNPREDICTABLE. So, I prefer to ply on a full time offline job with a GOOD BOSS in my side and would prefer home based business to wok in the leisure as a side income. Purna Borkotoki www.refdem.ws

Top 10 Reasons To Work From Home!

I agree - I love working from home. It's 4.30am and I couldn't sleep so rather than lying in bed thinking "I must sleep, I've got to get up in the morning" I got up, had a cup of tea, wrote an article and dealt with my e-mail knowing that I don't have to get up early tomorrow. The other joy of being self employed is that I am slowly becoming fitter because I can now exercise in the mornings - I am definately a morning person and I hate exercising after 6pm. Top 10 Reasons To Work From Home!

So here I am in shorts, t-shirt, floppy hat, flip flops sitting in the garden under a large umbrella, drinking a cold beer in the afternoon.... Meanwhile, my pharma clients are sitting in windowless offices moaning they don't know if it's sunny or raining and wondering how long their commutes in the stifling traffic with roadworks will be. All I need in the garden is a laptop, crackberry, headphones and wi-fi printing to the 3rd floor office for later. Bliss. What's not to like? :) :) :)

I partly work from home, and partly don't. If I could work more from home, it would reduce my carbon footprint considerably - best eco-responsible thing I could do on the business side. However, to do that, I'm sure we need more use of rich communications - video, voice etc.. We'll always need some face-to-face meetings for business, but a lot of us need to go beyond text-based, if we want to work from home more. Stephen Scott Syncresis Ltd

Top 10 Reasons To Work From Home!

Having been self employed, working from home for the last 2 years, I recently took on a role giving full time administrative support still working from home but answering to someone else - this has now finished and I have reclaimed my freedom! Choosing when to turn the phone off and take a break, when to go networking and when to meet colleagues for a cup of coffee to have a chat - which are always productive but you feel you can't do on someone else's time. I love it. I took time off last week to visit family - still checked emails and phone messages and dealt with any issues arising but could turn everything off with no questions asked. I'm a huge supporter of working from home. Maria Thomas THE MUSIC WORKSHOP COMPANY www.music-workshop.co.uk

Good job Rachel! I am not offended at all, those that are...oh well. I"m sorry but I would not be interested in hearing about houseplants as most of the houseplants I've had have taken their own lives.Janet JanetNapora.com

Top 10 Reasons To Work From Home!

Excellent article Rachel. I've worked from home for the past year and I concur wholeheartedly with the sentiments, although I'm not in network marketing, the sentiments of the article are true for many industries. I'd also add that flexible home working also makes it much easier to reassure clients that you'll be able to help them at any time, and not just when you're in the office. If a client knows they can call you at 9pm and you'll have full access to their files, it means they can sleep soundly instead of having to wait until the next morning to call you, when they're probably going to have other things to deal with. Of course this can have a downside as you're always on call, but then as most homeworkers are doing something they love I don't think this is too much of a problem! Also, if you're just starting out and your colleagues also work from home, then instead of finding an office meeting room, a pub with a table will usually suffice for strategy planning sessions! Something that's harder to justify if you're paying through the nose for premises. Do the business before the drinking though! Working from home is also good for those who aren't their own boss. I firmly believe in today's connected virtual work a sensible employer should not be asking employees to justify why they should be allowed to work from home, but to justify why they need to come in to the office (and thus cost the company more). Wow that was speedy Gordon! I was only playing around to see how the blogging works on my profile and yes i posted one of my 'forbidden' articles about the good life. Had no idea it would be blasted to all corners of the universe within 2 seconds! Well if anyone is offended I deeply apologise and will post only about my interest in house plants next time. :)
