I'm a composer based in Southampton, with a focus on film and video work. I have always had a passion for visual media, so this vocation suits me perfectly, and I'm currently acquiring the extra skills and equipment needed to make this my primary profession. My musical history is long and diverse. At an early age I was classically trained in piano, singing, double bass and organ. I've now played in too many bands to count, a couple of which have toured Europe, and made albums, which gave me the important "muso work ethic" that separates semi-pro performers from garage band members - for this, I am very grateful. I've lived in the area since gaining a maths degree at Southampton University. This led me to computing, and I've worked in a variety of roles, mainly as a software developer. I still work in the industry through my own limited company, and this pays the bills. At university I joined the film-making club and learned many techniques of the trade, including lighting, camerawork and basic editing. I love watching movies, and it was only natural that my dream at that time was to work as a film composer. Unfortunately, reality kicked in and I took what seemed, at the time, to be the correct path. I didn't bank on the mid-life zest for fulfilment that arrives alongside one's fortieth birthday and the realisation of one's mortality. I consider this my one chance at life. Therefore I am a film composer. That's what I should have been in the first place, and that's what brings me alive. If your success is not on your own terms, if it looks good to the world but does not feel good in your heart, it is not success at all. - Anna Quindlen
