About My Work - Middle East
We moved to Qatar in September 2008, when I came over to manage a large leadership development contract on behalf of a UK based consultancy. When the contract I ended, I decided to stay in Qatar . It's an exciting time in Qatar, and I feel privileged to be part of making the 2030 Vision for Qatar a reality. I am involved in a number of projects locally: Since Qatar won the bid to host the 2022 World Cup, there has been a huge increase in companies wanting to do business in the country and with over $56 Billion being spent on infrastructure, there are lots of opportunities and not just in construction.
Distinction Group have been helping companies from all over the world come and do business in Qatar, and they are always happy to advise any companies thinking of exploring this market. There is also Doha Business a group of 'Mavens' who are keen to share their insights and happy to blog news of new businesses. You can follow both on Twitter Here: DistinctionGrp DohaBusiness In over 4years of Distinction, we have come across many companies who were seeking sources of finance to take their business to another level. If you are seeking more info on the potential for your business in Qatar just contact Dave on email@example.com.
My background has been that I have spent over 20 years as a Management Consultant, helping individuals and organisations to manage change (personal & organisational. I am drawn to projects which will leave clients with increased skill and sustained change. I have always enjoyed building community and relationships (which is why I joined Ecademy!) and these are both very important here in the Middle East. Personal Information: I am finding the move to a complete new and different culture fascinating. Fortunately, whilst spending a year traveling here from the UK, I built up some good friendships and have been 'adopted' by a local Qatari family who I love. The family bonds here are a contrast to the UK, and I am motivated to learn Arabic so that I can communicate more freely with my new 'mother' and 'sisters'. I have started a rather tepid blog which I must update and make more meaningful! You can also find some Doho pics here. I am married (2nd time lucky) to a wonderful man, Dave Trevena
I have two wonderful children from my first marriage; David (studying for a Phd at Royal Holloway) and Holly, a dental nurse. Love them both to bits - Here they are all dressed up to go to a Qatari Wedding when
they visited in June 09.
I remain true to my first love of literature, poetry and art but also love building communities and fascinated by new media. I struggle to maintain a grasp on what really matters in our life, the pressures and stresses too easily focus our attention on 'me' and my needs, rather than the wider perspective. However I remain within the 'broad church' of the Anglican Christian tradition and a seeker of unity in spiritual beliefs rather than divisions.
