What Do I Need To Help With That? Successful entrepeneurs from all walks of life to interview for my ezine, podcast and blog
Only a few years ago, in 1998, Nicola Cairncross was applying for £12-14k per year secretarial jobs but her life had a massive turnaround due to a well-timed mentor (the amazing Bennie Gray from the Space Organisation) and a book falling off a shelf in the Oxford St branch of Books Etc.
That book was "Swimming With Pirahna Makes You Hungry" by Professor Colin Turner, who contacted Nicola 12 years later after reading her review and they are now working together on a webinar project where they are giving that book away to attendees - how life turns around!
The next book she read was "7 Habits Of Highly Effective People" by Steven Covey.
Phew! Is that one great book! She devoured it - and did all the exercises - before moving onto other greats such as "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki, "The E-Myth Revisited" by Michael Gerber and other life changing tomes.
This was her real education you see, because although bright.......
Nicola left school at 16 with only two skills:
1. the ability to read and a love of books
2. the ability to type
3. the ability to talk her way out of trouble
OK, that's three.
Proves you don't have to be able to add up (at least without a calculator which hadn't been invented when NC was at school) to found a leading wealth coaching & training company and become an "Expert In Residence" for Visa International and Pampers iVillage, eh?
Nicola caused a sensation when she spoke at the Annual Conference of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and started her talk by telling them she only had Grade 3 CSE maths. But she captured their attention big time by pointing out that she had put a £1 coin on each of their chairs and asking them if they knew how to turn that £1 into a million pounds in just 18 years?
None of them did know!
So she showed them......And then went on to tell them her story......
From a standing start of financial clueless-ness, Nicola founded a six figure coaching company The Money Gym, has written two books, writes two regular blogs (books and blog available on Amazon Kindle), bought, renovated and sold a boutique hotel in Sussex (no money down and that one nearly buried her so don't try it at home children!!)
Previously she founded Esoteric Records, dance label and publishing company, had an automated online music biz internet company, ArtistManager that matched up unsigned artists in the music industry with agents, managers and music biz resources, and nearly made a fortune while at college from selling New Romantic waistcoats made out of junk shop curtains to high fashion boutiques. If only she'd known about outsourcing! Still she can still "bag out" a waistcoat with the best of them (and so can her sisters!).
But more importantly, she has always dropped off and picked her kids up from school, only does business with people she likes and has a LOAD of fun on a daily basis.

Her genuine passion to help women develop financial freedom shines through and her presentation included simple, practical advice that listeners were able to take away and apply immediately. Nicola was also willing to stay around afterwards and chat to individuals about their specific issues which was valued by both them and us - that's delivering real value as a speaker!"
